It's very easy to make too. Usually, this dish is served in a Japanese bowl. Which i'm trying to buy but i couldn't find it at the nearest malls. One of my friends told me to buy it at Papaya Supermarket. This supermarket sells lots of Japanese foods ingredients, sushi and even cooking utensils. Well, i'll try to go there another time i guess.

But for this first attempt of cooking Chicken Katsu Don, guess i'll have to use my regular bowl. I got the recipe from here. Very simple!

Now will you excuse me...i got to go and buy those Japanese bowl ASAP!

Broccoli Nuggets

I wonder how many of you who loved broccoli? For some people (and not to mention how many kids will say something like..."ewwww"), this recipe may sounds scary. But to me, broccoli is one of my fave's. It's a SUPER healthy vegetable and it taste good too. Believe it or not, this broccoli nuggets is delicious.

Ok, enough about broccoli campaign. Now, because i create this recipe about 2 month ago....not much to remember. I'll try to create this another time and write down the recipes. Sorry ^^

I always cooked without measuring and put whatever spices & ingredients that i tought it'll fit in. Well, at least that's what i think because there's not much culinary academy here.

The cooking course start at 2pm, but i arrive early. I use this opportunity to ask about the programs, tuition fee, etc2. They even let me to look around in each class. One of the class is making chocolate and the tutor chef even offer me some of the chocolates. Cool!

At 2.15pm the course begin. I forgot the Chef's name, but he's a chef from Shangrilla Hotel. There was about 4 other girls who also joined this cooking course.

Today we'll be making 4 recipes: Tom Yam Goong, Pad Thai (Thailand's Fried Noodle), Chicken in Pandan Leaves and also Thailand's Crabmeat & Beef Bacon/Chicken Roll. I forgot to bring my digital camera, so i can't take pictures at that time.

What makes me a bit disappointed is the fact that it's more like a cooking demo than a cooking course. We only watch the chef cooking while asking some questions sometime. Not exactly what i imagined. I thought i will have my own table with all the ingredients and we'll cook together. But i still enjoyed it and getting to know new friends.

After about 2 hours in heat (there's no air conditioner in the kitchen) the whole course is over. I take some time to ask some questions to the chef about his job. He told me that if i wanted to become a chef i have to deals with heat like this everyday. Being a chef means LOTS of working hours, even in holiday. Hmm....that doesn't sounds good. But that's the facts i need to hear.

Anyway, i got home with some of the cooked results and take some pictures of it. I must say that the Tom Yam Goong wasn't so good. I've tasted better at Kuningan Restaurant. I 'll try to make this spicy soup later and try to find a better recipe.

The Pad Thai was OK, but not my favourite also. But the Chicken in Pandan Leaves and Thailand's Crabmeat & Beef Bacon/Chicken Roll was great! They're simple and easy to make. I'll try to make it another time and post the recipe.

Test Recipe: Braised Daikon

As i promised, i'll post one of my test recipe few weeks ago. I got this recipe from Periplus Mini Cookbooks Series: Japanese Favourites.

Actually, i got this beautiful white carrot-like vegetables accidentally while i was looking for vegetables for salad recipe. In my country, they called it lobak. Here's some explanation about daikon (from the recipe book):

"Daikon is a large white radish widely used in Japanese cooking. It may be eaten raw or cooked and is often pickled or grated. Used mainly in soups and stir-fries, it is sold in supermarket."

So bought some and when i got home...i realized i have no idea what should i do with this daikon. I eat it raw...it's crisps, juicy, and there's slightly bitter aftertaste. So i search trough my recipe books and i found this simple recipe. I have no other clue, so i'll just go with this recipe.

INGRDIENTS:
500 g (1 lb) daikon
1 teaspoon dashi powder dissolved in 1 liter (4 cups) water or 1 liter (4 cups) Dashi Stock (i don't have dashi powder, so i used instant 1/2 cubed instant chicken stock)
2 teaspoons sugar ( i make it 3 because i like it sweet)
2 tablespoon Japanese soy sauce (don't use the thick soy sauce, because the flavour will be too salty)
4 tablespoon sake
3 tablespoons mirin
black sesame seeds (goma shio)

01 Remove skin and thick outer layer and slice the daikon into eight thick pieces. Cut a thin strip on an angle from the top and bottom edge of each piece. Cut a shallow cross into the top on one side.

02 Place the daikon slices in a saucepan with dashi mixture or Dashi Stock, sugar, soy sauce and sake. Bring to the boil, removing any impurities from the surface with a spoon. Boil for 10 minutes then reduce heat and simmer covered for 2.5 hours or until daikon is tender and lightly browned.

03 Gently stir in the mirin. Set aside for 10 minutes before serving in small plate with little of the cooking liquid. Springkle some black sesame seeds and serve.

Well, it tasted OK. i can't say that this is my fave, because i found that the bitter aftertaste is still there. But i love how beautiful this dish can become. Do you agree?

Another time, i'll try to add the sake and maybe make it 3 hours to cooked. If you have any suggestion on how to cooked this daikon right, i'd be very happy to know it.

Busy Days

After 2 weeks bed rest (i got rubella last month), there's a lot of work to be done. I have to contact my personal clients & my boss to tell them that their project has been postponed due to my illness. I'm glad they understand. 2 weeks is not a short time right? So, right after i'm recovered...there's a huge pile of work to be done. But hey... i love being busy :)

After i finish most of the projects, my boss give me bonu$ as an appreciation of my hard works....i'm so happy for this!

Then there's my oldest sister wedding day this month. You know how a wedding can become an issue for the whole family. I'll ask her permission to post some of her wedding photo in this blog. Congrats sis! Hope you'll be having a baby soon!

Now i still got some projects to be done, but not as hectic as last month. The wedding is over and my sister is having her honeymoon right now.

I know i haven't posted anything for a long time and i feel sad because it's like i've abandoned this blog. But actually, i'm still here and got lots of food picture to post. But when i go to the poultry and meat alley in the supermarket, i think it would be just great if i try to cook this delicious fish. I also buy some chicken for Chicken Katsudon recipe, but i think i'll hold that for tomorrow because i think fish is great to cook while it's still fresh.

Ok then, this time i'll try my best to write down the recipe. You can also put the green beans and cook for 2-4 minutes or until tender but still crisp, drain.

03 Heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the salmon to the frying pan and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side for medium rare, or until cooked to your liking (i love the well-done type). Set aside.

04 Add the remaining garlic to the pan (set aside a small amount garlic to taste the potato), stir-fry until fragrant and then add small amount of water, then stir in the remaining lime/lemon juice, 3/4 part of cream, oregano, thyme, and half part of cheese. Simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the sauce has reduced and thickened slightly, then season with salt and pepper to taste.

05 Just before the salmon is ready, drain the potato. Add the remaining garlic, 1/4 part of cream, 1/2 part of cheese. Mash until smooth with a potato masher.

06 To serve, put the garlic mash on serving plates. Put the pan-fried salmon on top of it and then pour the cream sauce. Serve the green beans on the side.

This recipe is for 1 serving size, coz i only bought 1 salmon fillet. I ask my oldest sister to give it a try. She love it :) I'm glad my first salmon recipe turn out great. My mom is not a big fan of fish, so she only tried it a bit.

Btw, sorry for the long recipe post. It's a super busy weeks! One of my client ask me to finish his company profile within the next 2 days. He just send me the content YESTERDAY! My boss have an urgent task and my other client also push the deadline until the end of this month. Isn't hat wonderful? My holiday started today, but i think i can't rest until i finished all of this.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday peepz. I don't have any plan for christmas yet, but i hope ya'll have a wonderful christmas eve. Cheers!

Vegetarian Food

Today i found an interesting blog about opened a restaurant.

The restaurant called Kinta Restaurant. It's located at Portland, Oregon. I'm always excited when i found this kind of blog. The good thing is they also have a food blog called Asian Vegan, u can find lots of food picture there. (thanks to jenz, i found this link form her site)

I don't know about u, but i'm a vegetable lover. I'm not a vegetarian because i still love meat :) Once or twice i've tried a vegetarian food, and in some ways i kind of liked it hehe. I'm still try to search a good vegetarian restaurant here.

Since i have a special interest about food, i always do some small research about food nutrition, etc2. That kind of makes me more aware about eating healthy food.

I think every type of food or ingredients have a good purpose for our body, IF we eat it in balance and moderate amount. For example, u eat a hamburger with french fries or onion rings today. Then u balanced it by eating enough fibre like salad (with moderate amount of dressing of course) or a wholegrain cereal with fresh fruits as desserts.

Always eat oily, greasy and full-of-fat food in moderate amount. It's not like you can have a big fat greasy steaks with heavy based cream sauce after u eat a large bowl of salad. Get the point?

My suggestion - eats vegetable, fruits and drink a lot of water everyday worked like a charm ^^

Sweet Corn Soup

I create this sweet corn soup last week. I got lots of vegetables on my fridge, i think it's the best time to use them all. I used fresh sweet corn instead of the canned ones.

Making soup is so simple. As usual i don't go the measuring part, but here's the step-by-step :

01 Heat about 4-5 tablespoon oil in a large pot over medium heat and add the chopped garlic. let cook until it's fragrant, stirring occasionally.

02 Add some chopped fresh tomatoes & smoked beef, stir it again for about 3 minutes. Add some water, but not too much (or you can use chicken stock).

03 Add the sweet corn, carrots & some seasoning (salt, pepper & sugar). Let it cook for about 10-15 minutes or until the carrots is soft enough.

04 Add the pre-cooked shell pasta & leeks, stirring occasionally.

05 Meanwhile, lightly whisk 1 egg and then pour it into the boiled soup. Stir it quickly. Turn off the stove and then serve it. Yummy!

Spaghettini With Smoked Beef

I've always love DOME's spaghetti with smoked beef. Me & my friends agree that they have the best spaghetti with smoked beef in town. This dish is simple yet very delicious. That's why i try to made this dish myself.

So here's the result:

Surprisingly, it's wasn't that difficult. It's quite simple actually. You just have to picked the best quality ingredients. As usual, i don't precisely measured the ingredients. But here's an overview:

01 Cook the pasta according to description until al dente. Don't forget to put some salt on the water, along with some olive oil. Drain, set aside.

02 Gently heat some olive oil in a pan. Add 3 clove of garlic (crushed), sliced or slightly crushed. Saute until light brown and then add some water.

03 Add a generous amount of light cooking cream, some dried oregano and basil, small amount of grated parmesan and smoked beef. Simmer until the water is all gone and the cream sauce is thickened but not too thick.

04 Add the pasta, toss well in the pan. Arrange on plates and add some grated parmesan. Serve-that's it.

The smoked beef and the cheese will provide enough saltiness to the pasta. I only add some amount of salt when i cooked the pasta. The whole process only took about 15 minutes. So it's quick and simple.

The result is good, close enough with DOME's Spaghetti with smoked beef. I loved it and surely i will make it again with other variations. For example, use fresh herbs instead of dried herbs and try to find a better quality of smoked beef.

Shell Pasta With Shrimp and Leeks

I realized that i haven't posted any recipes lately. This time he sends us some of the best shrimps. So i decide to put some of it on my dinner ^^

I can't remember the whole process, but i remember i put some extra virgin olive oil, garlic, milk, cheddar cheese, oregano, thyme, leeks, shell pasta, a pinch of salt-pepper-sugar and of course some shrimp into it.

It tasted good actually, my older sisters & my younger brother loved it. People from all over the place, sending homemade postcards...write their own secrets and tell them to everybody else as anonymous. The idea is great and i see how peoples can be very creative when they create a homemade postcard. Maybe Hallmark should hired these peoples, eh? I love the words that they create to describe their secrets as simple as possible. But the meaning is really deep. i think you better take a look for yourself in order to understand what i'm saying here :P

Happy Birthday to ME! ^^

Last week, May 26 - is my birthday :) I'm 23 years old now. Usually i always remembered my birthday at least a month before. But this time...i only remembered it about a week ago. Must be because of all this work i have to finished. I'm so busy for the last few weeks.

When i woke up in the morning, i looked into my cellphone...10 messages...and the letter sign is blinking. My inbox is full and there are 2 missed call. I'm so glad that lot's of people still remembered my birthday, include my boss....and even my long lost friend -E-. Cool huh? You know, a nice sms in the morning can make you smile and happy for the rest of the day. I'm still saving some of the birthday sms until now, it's fun to read it again sometimes. Some of my friends called me to congratulate me.

I don't have any plans to celebrate my birthday this time. But thing's changed when my bestfriend -Y-, called me in the morning. She ask me to go out with her.

1 hour later -Y- come and pick me up. My other highschool friend -Yz- is already on the car with her too. He continued his study in Japan (one of the countries that i've always wanted to visit). Soon he'll continue his study in culinary, oh how i envy him!

I lost contact with -Yz- since we graduate from highschool, but apparently -Y- is still keep in touch with him. The good thing is, he bring me a box of almond chocolate from Japan, hehehe! It's delicious, i can't stop eating it. My diet is totally ruined, but i'm not regreting anything tonight LOL :)

We had so much fun that night. I got home with a happy feeling and big smile on my face. I'm glad i had a friend like her. I promise i will do the same thing when she had her birthday in the upcoming November.

I also got "The Purpose Driven Life" book in Indonesian translation as a birthday present from my church friends, the twins. Actually i already have the English version of that book, one of my online friend -W- kindly send me the book as a gift for my graduation last year. I didn't have the heart to tell them that i already had that book. So i receive it and appreciate it, everybody happy ^^ hehehe.

Good 'Ol Myself

Yeah! I'm back!

I read my friendster horoscope for today, and guess what it says..
"You can come out now. After days of wondering who the stranger behind your steering wheel was, you're suddenly feeling more like your old self -- and beginning to think about how to make compromises between the new and the old."

I couldn't agree more. Lately i feel like i'm not myself. Always complaining about things that happening to me. Blaming mylsef and feeling bored with my life. Wake up girls...there's no time for whining! But i think it's just because of my PMS hehehe.

Today i started my day by waking up late and i start working on 9.45 am. Oops! I'm late. My project manager already called me (as usual). I'm online as soon as possible and download emails...and then..2 jobs are waiting for me today. The first one is creating icons for the Instant Messenger that i've designed few days ago and the second job is creating a mock up design for the Instant Messenger Website. Nice!

My brain is a little bit slow today....so creating the icons and the website really is taking a longgg time. Infact...all day long. Well but i want to create the best....so that's the price to pay. I don't like it when my boss say that i've done a terrible job and i have to redesign it. I don't want to dissappointed him anymore..so i'll do my best.

Beside...tomorrow is saturday...my free day of the week. Suddenly i feel hungry and then i try to create a quick, easy & delicious pan-broiled bread (which i decide to call it bruschetta to make it simple).

I hope i write it correctly, this is my first written recipe creation i ever made. Usually i just remembered it, i never wrote it down. I found it pretty difficult to write a recipe....usually when it comes to measure the exact amount of ingredients :P Cheers!

Bruschetta With Sauteed Mushroom, Red Bell Peppers & Cheese

--Ingredients:-----------------------------------------------------
3 1/2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, crushed
3 fresh button mushrooms, sliced (it taste better than the canned ones)
1/4 red bell peppers, finely chopped (paprika)
2 tablespoon grated cheddar/mozarella cheese**
Sprinkle of dried oregano & thyme*
salt & sugar*
2 slice whole wheat bread

--Preparation:-----------------------------------------------------
Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat and cook the garlic for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant and golden. Add mushrooms and red bell pepper. Cook over high heat, stirring for about 3 minutes. Add oregano, thyme, salt & sugar. Continue to cook, stirring once or twice, for about 8-9 minutes.

Meanwhile, spread 1/2 tablespoon oil on top of each bread. After the mushrooms cooked, spoon and spread over the bread and then covered with cheese. Repeat with the remaining mushrooms & cheese for the other bread.

Add 1/2 tablespoon of oil in the saucepan, spread and then pan-broiled over low heat for about 15-20 minutes or until crisp & golden. Serve immidiately and enjoy :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

* I don't know the exact amount of the dried oregano & thyme, coz i just sprinkled a small amount of dried oregano and a bit of dried thyme. Same case happened for the salt & sugar :p

** If you're on a diet, reduce the cheese or try to replace it with ricotta or parmesan cheese. The other ingredients is ok because i use whole wheat bread, olive oil (unsaturated fats) & red bell peppers.

New Year Home Renovation Plan

I`m excited! So i talk about it with my mom and other family members....then they all agree to renovate the house. It's not a small amount of money, but we have to do first thing first, right?

I guess my house is going to do a little makeover for the new year too. I got lots of thing to be paid last month so i'm not going to the clinic.

The doctor told me that i should be discipline for a better results. OK..i admit it, that's my fault..

Btw...did you know how painful FACIAL is?? It's really hurts!! Well maybe for some people it's not that hurt, but for me...it does hurts! They squeezed all over your skin and when they found an acne...they'd squeezed harder. GOSH! I realized that...beauty does need sacrifice...

Waxing, plastic surgery, hair rebonding, liposuction, etc2...they're like torture...some people will do that for beauty. I can't say this blogsite is my persoanal website...coz this is too personal i think :p What they talking about is a website that contains my portfolio, personal details, etc2. I download some of the files required...like the "HiJack This!" programs to scan my computers.

Guess what? their response is superfast!! I posted my thread...then about 3 minutes later i get my answer. Isn't amazing? Well the response is have to post the right description from the HiJack scan. But it's still a fast response, right?

For your information guys, i think you should download Ad-Aware to eliminating any unwanted ad's on your computers, SpyWare Blaster will preventing problems with viruses, hijackers and spyware. Additionally, installing the MVPS Hosts file adds an extra level of protection.

Another tips is to always updating your antivirus software. If your computers is already infected with some virus, try the Cyber Tech forums or maybe Symantec virus removal tools to find the cure. I already download the Trojan.Qhost and scanned my computer. A trojan virus was found.

For the past few days i worked really hard. But one by one all of those task is done. I hope i can get finish all of them soon. Ok no time to chit chat, coz i got lot's of things to do. Not a standard pocket digital camera....but a professional semi manual digital camera. Expensive!

I want to take pictures of everythings...for my artwork...or maybe just a hobby in my sparetime. I love photography! I`m a beginner....but at least i had my first photography lessons at my uni. It's surely going to be an expensive hobby.

Today my boss suddleny called me and he wants me to redesign a website (which i already designed it for about 7 times). The client hate it. We will loose this project if we don't act fast. So now i`m in the middle of browsing trough the internet.

I`m looking for new ideas....brainstorming. Apparently the client wants something extraordinary. Not a conventional corporate looks website. So i`m try to think hard and pay a serious attention on this one. I got 3 ideas and about to pour it into my layout design. I hope the client will love this one. Wish me luck!

Smile!

Today i`m going to the mall alone. Last week i ordered blue contact lenses, so i have to take it at the optic shop today. I'm pretty much enjoying it actually.

My favorite place is the bookstore...And the second goes to the cozy cafe..YAY! I bought 2 magazine and 1 Japanese cookbook recipe. For ur information...i love buying recipe books..But rarely try it hahaha. I love to cook...but it's only for daily food...not Japanese...Italian...etc2. Well i`m buying it b'coz SOMEDAY i want to try it :p

Then i get to the graphic design section. GOSH! There are sooo many great books to buy. But they're too expensive. But i really want to buy them if i got some extra money. I realized, as a designer i`m need more and more inspiration & creativity. I have to think outside the box. Beyond expectation.

If i want to be a good designer i have to be updated about changes in graphic design, peoples, lifestyle..etc2. That's why i love books..They`re one of the most updated information source (beside newspapers, television, radio, internet, etc2). I don't wanna left behind...so i have to be always up to date. But the price sometimes makes me think twice about buying them. I can't afford them. Graphic design books are always expensive. But it's worth the money i guess. So i really really have to buy them sometimes.

Today i also received a beautiful sms from my friend -M-, it says "The beauty of life does not depend on how happy you are, but on how happy others can be because of you. Have a nice day, n make a lot of people happy today"........it's inspired me a lot.

So...i started to smiled on almost everyone i met today. Including..the store keeper, security peoples, sales, my sister...my mum. I said almost everyone b'coz if i keep on smiling to all of them...they'll think i`m on a high or something hahahaha.

But i`m sure even a simple smile can make people smiling back at you...and scientific research said that smiling definitely can make you happy! So...i think i just make some people happy today :) i hope...

•°o Been Away Too Long o°•

Here i am, sitting in my chair in front of my good 'ol computer.
